| My branch of the Myrows spelled their name "MYROW" after 1880 or so, but before that, their father spelled it "MIRO", or some similar variation. I have not been able to prove ancestry beyond the father, James Miro, in my research. However, in 1838, in Red River Co., Texas, there are probate records for a James Miro, deceased, and the administrator is trying to sell off a very large tract of land to settle debts. There are land records showing that this James Miro was an early settler of Red River Co. and obtained this approx. 4600 acres because he had settled there before 1836. By 1838, this James Miro was dead, and the transaction is in the name of "the heirs of James Miro". Red River history books indicate James Miro migrated to this area in 1828. Although I have not been able to prove the elder James Miro is the father to my James Miro, the name is such a rare one, the likelihood is very great. In 1850, young James Miro was found in Limestone Co., Texas, and he indicated he was born in Arkansas. It is interesting to note that Red River Co. included part of what is now Arkansas. In two subsequent censuses, he stated he was born in Louisiana. There are very few Miros in Louisiana before 1840. Of course, there was Governor Miro, but he had only one daughter that I can find. There was a Celes Miro in Natchitoches Parish in 1830, as well as a Joseph Miro, who witnessed many Catholic marriages during that time. There was an Ernest Miro in New Orleans in 1820, and Julie and Rozina Miro there in 1810. I would be very interested in hearing from descendants of any of those Miros. She was born abt. 1836 in Tennessee, and died after 1880. Notes for JAMES MIRO: The last census James Miro is found is 1870. There is a marriage record for Mrs. Martha Ann Miro to Joab Richardson in Limestone Co. in 1875, which would suggest that James died before 1875. By 1880, Martha Ann is again a Miro and living with her son, Abram, which means Mr. Richardson must have died before then.
